Pillar Rabbit opens at Spotlighters on Friday, August 16.

Each year Spotlighters Theatre chooses a script from submissions to BPF for a full-scale collaborative production.  This year’s selection is PILLAR RABBIT, a world premier new work by Baltimore playwright Mel Holley.

PILLAR RABBIT is directed by TaVon Vinson and produced by BPF Vice Chair Miriam Bazensky.

PILLAR RABBIT tells the story of Southern matriarch, Lunelle Pillar, who loses her favorite son, Rodney, in the midst of her own battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Lunelle is grateful she has her neighbor, Ethel, her daughter-in-law, Tracey, and her home-grown garden to keep her stable.  But when the rest of the family – Angelle, Kong, Lizzie, Bryton, and Marshall – come home to help bury the fallen Pillar, family resentments surface and the very foundation of Lunelle’s life is shaken.

The cast includes:

  • Ethel Green – Kay-Megan Washington
  • Lunelle Pillar – Tarita Turner
  • Tracey Pillar – Terena McLorn
  • Bryton Green – Chris Reed
  • Armand “Kong” Pillar – Patrick Bean Jr.
  • Marshall Amparo – Nicholas Friend
  • Angelle Pillar-Harrison – Shelbi Nelson
  • Lizzie Harrison – Amari Chambers
